Tarrant County officials are warning residents about circulating emails that claim adults must re-register as voters to receive their new voter registration certificates.

Voter registration certificates printed on blue paper expired on Dec. 31, 2011. The delay in receiving new certificates, the county says, is a result of federal litigation surrounding the state's redistricting maps.

"Renewal certificates ... will be mailed to all registered voters once the state redistricting plans are finalized by the federal courts," a county news release said. "Voters can expect to receive their new certificate before the 2012 primary elections."

The latest negotiations in Texas' redistricting maps have pushed the primary elections by another month. At the earliest, state officials now say, voters will be headed to the polls for primary elections May 29.

The new voter registration certificates will be printed on yellow paper, and will remain valied through Dec. 31, 2013. For more information, call the Tarrant County Elections Department at 817-831-8683.
