“I knew it was going to change my life as soon as I saw it,” said Zoern, who has been in a wheelchair her entire life.
The cars cost $25,000 and allow people who are wheelchair-bound to drive the vehicles up to 25 miles per hour. Zoern said it was that very lack of mobility in high school—when other kids were getting their first cars—that eventually inspired her to help move the Hungarian car manufacturer to Central Texas.
“They were all experiencing something I knew that I was missing: freedom,” Zoern said.
The vehicles are manufactured right in Pflugerville, and a number of city officials were on hand for the unveiling and first drive of the Kenguru.
Given the opportunity to place a “Made in Pflugerville” sticker on the first Kenguru, Pflugerville Mayor Jeff Coleman said, “Pflugerville is incredibly proud of this sticker, this company and this car.”
