Lakeway City Council meetings are coming to the Internet.

On June 18, council authorized the funding to hire Swagit Productions, a Plano-based company, to live stream future council meetings and install the needed equipment. The video service will cost the city approximately $24,000 for Swagit Productions to install the cameras and equipment, and $650 for the company to record and archive the video of the meetings.

Lakeway Deputy City Manager Chessie Blanchard said the success of the live stream of the Lakeway City Council candidate forum held in April encouraged the city to consider live streaming future council meetings.

Councilwoman Dee Ann Burns-Farrell said the live stream will be useful for residents who are interested in what is happening with the city but cannot make it to council meetings in person.

"I think this is a win-win and a big plus, and is great for the residents and great for City Council," she said.

Video of the council meetings will be archived on the city website and linked to the council's agenda, Blanchard said.
