  • Conflating two issues

Tricia, I think this article conflates two issues, making it sound like the RR 620 overpasses are somehow a Steiner Ranch issue. They are not. The SRNA is concerned with development within Steiner, including Steiner-specific traffic issues. The RR 620 / FM 2222 issues are related to all the growth in the area, whether Steiner, Lakeway, etc.

  • Overpass

Adding an overpass at 2222 & 620 would be a waste of funds: it would simply get everyone to the next major bottleneck (Riverplace) a little faster. That would increase the congestion there significantly, with the net effect being negligible benefit anyone's drive time. We either need alternative routes, or significantly increased capacity on existing routes. Austin desperately needs improved East/West roadways... in this case, increasing the capacity and flow of 2222 from 620 all the way to I-35.

  • Steiner Ranch Neighborhood Association

"Potential options that were discussed by the SRNA were to turn RR 620 into a freeway or to build overpasses at the more congested intersections such as FM 2222 and Anderson Mill Road."

Wait, what? Let's destroy what's left of the beauty of that area by building a freeway so that Steiner Ranch residents can have convenience? Say not so!

Do what you want within the confines of Steiner Ranch. You chose to live there, accept that 620 is the road that gets you there and don't demand a freeway.
