The new Premier Athletic Complex will be located near the Cedar Park Center in Leander.

A new 40,000-square-foot multimillion-dollar athletic facility is planned to open in the Leander area this fall.

Facility Director Mike Weigand and Project Manager Norm Gill are building Premier Athletic Complex at 8220 Toll 183A in Leander between Crystal Falls Parkway and FM 2243. The facility will sit on 10 acres with an additional 2 acres available for future expansion.

“Northwest Austin needed something like this,” Weigand said. “All the signs pointed to this area for a facility of this kind.”

He plans to host multiple sports and events at PAC, including dodgeball, cheer competitions, wrestling, community events and concerts, but the main focus will be on basketball and volleyball, Weigand said.

Due to the particular focus on these sports, PAC will have three full-size, hardwood floor high school basketball courts, six middle school-size basketball courts and six full-size volleyball courts.

Weigand said he intends on hosting training, practices, tournaments and leagues for every age group, including adult teams, competitive clubs and even kindergarten programs.

“We will have the ability to serve every age group and everyone in the community,” Weigand said.

The PAC will also have a fitness facility so athletes can train, he said. There will be personal trainers on hand and different active classes for all age groups. Some of the programs PAC may offer include CrossFit, yoga, Zumba and Jazzercise, Weigand said.

According to Weigand, the facility will also have a concessions café that will go above and beyond traditional snack bar foods. Meeting rooms for corporate meetings, birthdays and other gatherings will be available as well as office space for PAC administration and for the club teams that use the facility as their home venue.

The PAC is not strictly an indoor facility, however.  There will also be two outdoor sand volleyball courts with a separate bathroom, shower and concessions facility.

Other features include parking for 300 cars with the ability to expand to room for 500, and large, electronically controlled television screens that will serve as scoreboards, Weigand said. He anticipates the scoreboards will eventually be used for other purposes such as corporate presentations.

Weigand said he is excited about the opportunities that PAC will bring to Leander and Cedar Park as his business grows.

“There is nothing else like it in the area,” Weigand said.
