Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas pairs volunteers with young people in need of mentoring and positive role models. The agency serves children in Hays, Travis and Williamson counties. Buda Fire Department is a combination paid/volunteer fire department that provides fire suppression and EMS service to a 75-square-mile area of northeast Hays County. Burke Center for Youth in Driftwood was formed in 1973 to care for Texas children who are removed from their home environments because of abuse, neglect or problems with the law. Volunteers must undergo a criminal history screening and attend orientation and training. Dreams of Hope Ranch works to help special needs children and adults reach their potential, improve their quality of life. Easter Seals Central Texas, originally chartered as the Texas Society for Crippled Children, has been providing services to children and adults with disabilities and their caregivers since 1937. Friends of the Library is a volunteer organization dedicated to strengthening the San Marcos Library through fundraising, volunteer work and advocacy. Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center works to create an environment where violence and abuse are not tolerated in the communities it serves. All services are free and confidential. Hays County Diabetes Coalition brings those together who are interested in diabetes education. Helping the Aging, Needy and Disabled Inc. is licensed by the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services and has provided personal assistance services in clients’ homes for more than 34 years. Make a Wish Foundation of Central and South Texas grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. Volunteers assist in wish-granting, fundraising and event planning. Pawsitive Energy: Delta Society Pet Partners of San Marcos is a group of Registered Pet Partners that works to improve the lives of people through animal-assisted therapy. PAWS Shelter and Humane Society provides care and love to homeless, abandoned and abused animals in Central Texas.
