You're correct, the comment did miss that part. However, please differentiate between the comments I make here and the story. One is researched (the story) and one is off the cuff (the comment). I stand by the story, the graphic and the research. While Community Impact is a family of newspapers, the Georgetown story was written by a different reporter for a different paper with a different audience at a different time. Please note that the Georgetown story was written 8 months ago. Things have changed during that period. If there is any contradiction between the stories, this one is the most up to date.

  • Reporter contradiction

Mr. Rasmussen, in your comment you state, "The relationship, as I understand it, is simply that Russ Peterman heads both TBCA and TLCC. I'm not aware of any further affiliation or partnership between the two entities." However, in the article, you state, "The TBCA will start with a number of “launch partners” on June 1 that includes the Texas Healthcare & Bioscience Institute, Emergo Group, Texas Life-sciences Collaboration Center, Texas A&M Health Science Center, North Texas Enterprise Center, and Independent Bank—Round Rock." Is this not a contradiction? I agree that the Georgetown and Round Rock stories are not in sync and create confusion, regardless of the market they are intended for. Maybe this story should have been further researched before going to print. The intent is to further inform readers instead of confusing them. Thank you.

The relationship, as I understand it, is simply that Russ Peterman heads both TBCA and TLCC. I'm not aware of any further affiliation or partnership between the two entities. The graphic not only reflects the decision to headquarter TBCA in Round Rock, but also represents our (RPH's) primary readership, which is the Round Rock, Pflugerville, Hutto area. The previous article you mention was in our Georgetown paper.

The article does mention TLCC as being located in Georgetown. It's in the fourth paragraph.

Also, Peterman is not promoting the recruitment of life sciences businesses to Round Rock, and if that is unclear in the story that's my fault. He does acknowledge at the end of the article that jobs could come around TBCA in Round Rock, but that was because I asked him about it directly after Round Rock officials said that was their hope.

I hope that answers some of your questions. If you have any others, please feel free to ask.

In October 2011, an article in Community Impact by Beth Wade, stated that the Texas Life-Sciences Collaboration Center in Georgetown was leading the creation of the I-35 Bio Alliance, and the same graphic displayed today listed Georgetown as the main office. This article today by a different reporter removes Georgetown from the graphic, and includes no mention of Georgetown, TX as the site of TLCC, a life science accelerator and incubator. Perhaps, more information is needed to understand the dynamic of the relationship between Mr. Peterman, Exec. Dir at TLCC in Georgetown, TX, the City of Round Rock Economic Development Dept., the I-35 Bio Alliance, and the City of Georgetown. Without any mention of Georgetown in the article, it appears that Mr. Peterman is promoting Round Rock over Georgetown, in the pursuit and recruitment of life sciences businesses. The taxpayers of Georgetown have invested over $500,000 in the creation and operation of the Texas Life Science Center with remarkable success. The creation and purpose of the marketing alliance is easily understood, but the "neutrality" of Round Rock, who's seeking its niche in this business sector, is greatly overstated.
