  • Gas Drilling In Southlake

Southlake City Council in October, 2011 in passing new drilling ordinances made it almost impossible for any energy company to drill within the City limits of Southlake. New ordinances were not needed due to the fact Southlake had already updated its ordinances in 2008. These new 2008 ordinances were labeled "one of the strictest within the State of Texas". The 2011 "moratorium" arbitrarily imposed by the City Council basically allowed most of the existing gas & oil lease options to expire. This has cost the energy companies over $70 million in lost lease options. Now with the new Southlake arduous ordinances it would cost a new energy applicant a minimum of $10 million in new property leases and a $269,000 City of Southlake slush fund just to apply again for a permit with NO assurances whatsoever that the City Council will approve a permit.
The City Council of Southlake has egregiously ignored the irrefutable fact that a super majority (67%) or approximately 12,000 registered and active voters consisting of the City of Southlake property owners did sign oil and gas leases and by doing so indirectly and overwhelmingly supported gas drilling in compliance with Ordinance 880-A. on October 18, 2011 the City Council of Southlake deliberately and in bad faith, unjustly and unfairly, amended and approved Ordinance 880-B against the interests of a super majority of Southlake mineral rights owners providing for overzealous, unreasonable and untenable revisions to the City of Southlake Oil and Gas Well Drilling and Production Ordinance, catering to an extremely small group of environmental extremists desiring to cease and desist any chances of oil and/or gas drilling whatsoever within the City limits of Southlake.
If you are a registered voter and resident of Southlake and want to right the wrong created by the City Council of Southlake, I encourage you to join the Citizens for Property Rights in Southlake. For more information check out www.southlakecpr.com.
