Two additional public hearings on annexation will be held at Magnolia City Hall.

Two additional public hearings on annexation will be held at Magnolia City Hall.

The Magnolia City Council scheduled two additional hearings—on Feb. 29 and March 5—to give the public a chance to voice concerns and ask questions about the city's annexation plans. They were scheduled for 7 p.m.

"We just wanted to make sure the right information is out there and that everybody gets their questions answered,” said Deborah Rose Miller, Magnolia's economic development coordinator.

The city has already held two public meetings in January to allow residents and business owners to ask questions and hear back from their city council members.

Magnolia plans to annex five separate tracts of land into its city limits, the largest of which extends from the Magnolia Church of Christ to Friendship Lane along FM 1774. The annexation is intended to clean up the city's boundaries and prepare for economic growth.

This is the first time Magnolia has attempted to annex land on such a large scale, and the city is going through the process carefully, especially when it comes to making sure the public is informed, Miller said.

While the City Council initially planned to vote on annexation at its February meeting, the final vote is now set to take place at the council meeting on March 5, after the second hearing.

"We don't really have a time constraint here, so we figured it would be easier to add another month just to give everyone another chance to learn about what we're trying to do,” she said.

Dates and details of the public hearings were finalized at the Feb. 14 council meting at Magnolia City Hall, which is located at 18111 Buddy Riley Blvd.
