Stepping in to Windwalker Primitive Weapons in Buda is a bit like stepping back in time—if time since the early 1800s had been compressed into one 400-square-foot shop.
The walls, shelves, countertops and nearly every available space showcase guns, knives, arrowheads and more.
Gunsmith and owner David Stewart runs the place as a repair and restoration shop, as well as a kind of museum. He specializes in black powder firearms, but he also creates bows and arrows and custom leather items such as knife sheaths and belts.
Stewart said he has lost count but estimates he has about two dozen original weapons, including a “monkey gun,” created around 1900 and sold to Thailand and India to shoot monkeys away from religious idols.
He said many of his items have come from people cleaning out their grandfathers’ attics or storage spaces. He said he always welcomes donations of guns, photos and other historical treasures.
