In preparation for the 2013 Champion's Tour event, The Woodlands Country Club and owner Sequoia Golf completed a three-month, $1 million renovation of the Palmer, Player and Tournament golf courses, which it will celebrate during an Oct. 12 ceremony.
The improvements include course and landscape enhancements, as well as new golf cart fleets. The Tournament Course received the majority of the renovations, as it will be the main playing grounds of the Champions Tour’s annual Insperity Championship. The tournament is typically held in the spring, and this past year featured golf greats Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Lee Trevino.
Completed in advance of the 2013 Champion’s Tour event, the course had its greens replaced with Mini Verde Ultra Dwarf Bermuda grass. According to Sequoia Golf, the turf is known for its strength, quick recovery time, tolerance to extreme temperatures, general foot traffic and wear and tear.
“We are extremely proud of our courses at The Woodlands Country Club,” said Joe Guerra, president and CEO of Sequoia Golf. “Our team works extremely hard year-round to maintain its allure that makes it one of the top clubs in the state of Texas.”
Guerra said Sequoia and the country club appreciated the community's patience during the renovation period.
“The recent renovations further prove our commitment to offering our members and their guests the best amenities available,” said Guerra. “We’re confident that they will be pleased with the end results.”
The renovation was overseen by Sequoia Golf’s Greenscapes division, the company’s specialized team of construction managers and designers.
