The Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar and The Highball are part of scheduled redevelopment of the South Lamar Plaza Shopping Center.

New developments are coming to Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar and The Highball in the South Lamar Plaza Shopping Center starting this fall.

The Highball at 1142 S. Lamar Blvd. will close for its redevelopment Nov. 17, and Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar at 1120 S. Lamar Blvd. will close Jan. 3. Both locations are scheduled to reopen during the third quarter of 2013, a spokesperson for the Alamo Drafthouse said Sept. 18.

"As much as I love the current shopping center, the redevelopment of South Lamar Plaza will enable us to execute much-needed lobby renovations and increase the parking capacity for the complex," said Tim League, Alamo Drafthouse Cinema founder and CEO, in a news release.

The Alamo location has six screens and will add three more, as well as a revamped, larger lobby and a bigger parking lot, the news release said. The theater will continue to offer both 4K digital and 35 mm archival screenings.

Vintage bowling will be removed from The Highball, according to the news release. Open-air seating will be added, and The Highball will be rebuilt next to the new Alamo location.

renovation completed in 200 days?

Do you really think that is remotely possible? In 200 days they may have the area prepped for start of construction. How is the new North Austin Alamo doing? I first read it would open this fall now it may be next spring. Weather sure shouldn't have been a problem since we are in a drought.
