A Walmart Superstore is being planned at the northwest corner of FM 1431 and Ronald Reagan Boulevard.

The Cedar Park City Council is scheduled to review plans for the city's second Walmart at its July 12 meeting.

The proposed 150,000-square-foot retail store will be located at the northwest corner of FM 1431 and Ronald Reagan Boulevard. The new Walmart will employ approximately 300 employees, a company spokesperson said in December when the new store was announced.

The City Council will hold a first reading and public hearing to rezone 29.68 acres from development reserve to general retail conditional overlay. The zoning request received support from city staff, which has worked with Walmart officials since the December announcement. The Planning and Zoning Commission also approved the zoning change by a 4-2 vote at its December meeting.

The store will feature all of the amenities currently offered in other Wal-Mart locations, including groceries, a bakery, deli, clothes, sporting goods and more. Different from older stores, the company spokesperson said the new Wal-Mart in Cedar Park is to include environmentally friendly technology as well as features to reduce energy and water consumption and minimize waste.

No action will be taken on the zoning change until at least the council's July 26 meeting.
