The Round Rock ISD board approved naming Laurelyn Arterbury as principal for Westwood High School to replace Rebecca Donald.

“Thank you for this incredible opportunity. I am humbled and excited to accept this leadership position,” Arterbury said.

Arterbury currently serves as associate principal at Stony Point High School. Donald, who was recently promoted as the district's assistant superintendent of secondary education, had served as Westwood principal since 2002.

Arterbury has been with RRISD for 12 years and began her career in the district teaching social studies at Stony Point Ninth Grade Center. She has experience with the International Baccalaureate program, which is a rigorous curriculum based on international standards and designed for college-bound and highly motivated students. Her experience will help Westwood as it seeks IB recertification for the 2012–13 school year, according to the district's website.

She said she will continue to build upon Westwood's educational foundation and maintain its tradition of excellence. Arterbury is seeking her doctorate degree in education from Texas A&M University at College Station.

Outstanding. I am sure Laurelyn will do good things to get Westwood back on track to maximum performance.
