Memorial service set for Round Rock community advocate, leader Raymond Hartfield

Longtime Round Rock resident and former Round Rock ISD board of trustees member Raymond Hartfield died June 12 at age 64.

Hartfield, a longtime community advocate, had cancer. A memorial service will be held June 30 at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Round Rock, 1004 N. Mays St.

“Raymond was very much the heart and soul of a lot of the really great things that we’ve seen in Round Rock in the last 10 or 15 years at least,” said Landy Warren,  market president and chief lending officer at First Texas Bank in Round Rock.

Warren served with Hartfield on several boards and steering committees, he said.

Hartfield served as an education advocate for AT&T before retiring and served on the RRISD board of trustees for 14 years beginning in 1994. He was also co-chairman of ACCTion 4 Education, a political action committee focused on bringing Austin Community College to Round Rock.

He was also active in the Round Rock Chamber of Commerce and was named Citizen of the Year by the group in 2010.

“He was tireless in his advocacy,” Warren said, adding that Hartfield was a participant in many community advocacy groups and often led the charge.

Hartfield also served on the boards for YMCA of Greater Williamson County, Skillpoint Alliance, St. David’s Medical Center–Round Rock and the Texas State University Advisory Board.

He is survived by his wife, Ann, two children and four grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Round Rock ISD Partners in Education Raymond Hartfield Memorial Scholarship Fund.
