Bistrot Mirabelle closed its doors temporarily June 26, and owner Brian O'Neill will spend the next couple of months coming up with a new concept, menu and name for the restaurant.

O'Neill bought the establishment, formerly known as Mirabelle Restaurant, in late October from Michael Vilim, who had opened the original eatery about 12 years ago. The restaurant is located in the Mesa Woods Shopping Center at 8127 Mesa Drive, Ste. A-100, near Spicewood Springs Road.

Lisa O'Neill, whose firm Newton O'Neill Communications does public relations for the restaurant, said Brian O'Neill and his partners are working through concept ideas and are leaning toward a more American comfort food restaurant with a great bar. She said the goal is to find a concept that works better with the neighborhood because the French bistro idea did not take off.

Brian O'Neill has more than 20 years of restaurant experience, including work at Max’s Wine Dive, The Belmont and Uchi in Austin and the Russian Tea Room in New York City.

The new restaurant is slated to open Sept. 4.
