DockDogs—an aquatic competition for canines—took place during the daytime over the course of the three-day festival.

The three-day Magnolia Love Bug Fest has come and passed in a whirl of live music, leaping dogs and lots of lovebug-related fanfare. The sun was out through most of the weekend, with a bit of rain interference on Friday, but temperatures remained reasonable and things tended to cool off slightly as the evenings set in.

Those who made the Love Bug Fest a part of their weekend plans were treated to a variety of different activities and entertainment options. Through the outdoor screening of "Herbie the Love Bug," live music and fireworks Saturday night and the Sunday worship and trail ride, the event offered a broad range of appealing activities for families.

DockDogs dominated the scene during the daytime throughout the weekend with a pool and dock set up at the center of the park. Dog owners and curious passers-by crowded around to watch the competition. The contests featured many local Magnolia dogs in events such as the long jump, vertical jumps and speed runs.

Additionally, the event featured vendor booths selling an array of homemade crafts and accessories. Many of the typical festival foods were on-hand, as well as some Renaissance favorites, like turkey legs and sausage.

Organizing a three-day event from scratch is an ambitious undertaking, but the Love Bug Fest, by and large, seemed to draw in a fair amount of interested people and went off without a hitch. For this first-year event, the impression has been made.
