NeuroTexas Institute at St. David’s HealthCare To Host Free Seminar in Sun City

to Address Ailments Commonly Found in Frequent Golfers

On Nov. 20 the NeuroTexas Institute at St. David’s HealthCare will host a free seminar to help golfers stay on course and prevent back pain. Back injuries are one of the most common ailments found in frequent golfers because the torque generated in the golf swing windup and follow-through places a lot of stress on the lumbar spine.

“People tend to think of golf as a low-risk sport, but golfers often sustain injuries of the back and shoulder,” Dr. Michael Webb, neurosurgeon and executive medical director of NeuroTexas Institute at St. David’s HealthCare, said. “Many of these injuries can be prevented by using proper form and preparing before a round of golf.”

The seminar will help golfers establish a stretching regimen, and understand proper body mechanics of a golf swing. Additionally, it will address postoperative recovery periods and activity limits for the most common spine surgeries.

Golfsmith, the co-sponsor of the event, will provide each attendee with a complimentary gift card for use in its store.

The seminar will be held Nov. 20 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Sun City Social Center, located at 2 Texas Drive in Sun City (Georgetown). The seminar, which will feature Webb, is open to the public.
