City makes offer to retain Acevedo

**Update: Austin Police Department Chief Art Acevedo declined the city's offer to increase his salary. He is still in the running for the position in Dallas.**

The city has made an offer to keep APD Chief Art Acevedo in Austin, after news of Acevedo’s possible relocation to Dallas. Acevedo is one of six finalists nationwide vying to replace the current Dallas Police Chief, David Kunkle, who is set to retire in April.

City council adopts “no-kill” animal services plan, $12 million contract to build east Austin animal shelter

Residents encouraged to nominate Austin for Google’s broadband pilot project

The city and area residents have until March 26 to submit an application to be part of Google’s recently launched Fiber for Communities project, a plan that would bring ultra-high speed broadband to a few trial locations across the nation.

Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo in running for Dallas police chief

APD Chief Art Acevedo recently applied to lead Dallas’s police team as chief, along with six other finalists from around the nation. Recruited by the Police Executive Research Forum in Washington, D.C., Acevedo said the move did not come as a response to dissatisfaction with his role in Austin, but sees the position as a new opportunity.
