AUSTIN — The Internal Revenue Service announced that its office and Taxpayer Assistance Center (TAC) located at 825 E. Rundberg Lane in has been temporarily closed due to a fire. The IRS office suffered smoke and water damage when a fire broke out in the suite next door last Friday. Sensitive taxpayer records stored in the IRS office were not compromised and are being moved to a secure location. This location will be closed at least 10 days. An announcement will be made when this location re-opens.
In the meantime, taxpayers can access the IRS web site at www.irs.gov or call the toll-free tax help line at 1-800-829-1040. That line is available from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays.
The nearest IRS Taxpayer Assistance Center is located in San Antonio at 8626 Tesoro Drive. IRS also has a TAC in Waco at 6801 Sanger Avenue.
