About Community Impact Newspaper

Community Impact Newspaper is Central Texas’ fastest growing news organization, and the most widely-distributed news source for relevant and useful information at the community level.
In September 2005, Community Impact Newspaper launched its first edition in Pflugerville and Round Rock. There were three full time employees including the publisher, John Garrett, and the company officed out of the game room in John’s house. A year later, Community Impact had grown into a full-fledged business, having launched a second publication bringing news into Cedar Park and Leander and employing 13 people in an 800 sq. ft. office space on Central Commerce Drive in Pflugerville.
John’s vision to build a company that would provide local news didn’t stop there. By the next summer, another move and 35 employees later, there were a total of four papers bringing Northwest Austin and the cities of Georgetown, Hutto and Taylor into Community Impact’s distribution. The company now headquarters in a 5,000 sq. ft. office in Pflugerville.
In April 2008, Community Impact launched its fifth edition into the Southwest Austin area and opened a second office located on South Congress. This new publication increased the paper’s distribution to more than 295,000 homes and businesses. With the addition of a dedicated web team on staff, a redesign of impactnews.com also launched in April. Today, the two-and-a half-year old paper has 44 employees.
John, along with his wife Jennifer, have created JG Media, Inc. with a commitment to creating a company culture that strongly identifies with integrity and passion, and they are dedicated to building strong employee relationships.
At a time when print media is on the decline, Community Impact Newspaper has restructured an old product – the community newspaper – and turned it into an important tool by providing readers useful, informative news.
