Company History
Community Impact Newspaper is Texas’ fastest growing news organization, and the most widely distributed news source for relevant and useful information at the community level. Since its launch five years ago, Community Impact Newspaper, which is published by JG Media, Inc., has restructured an antiquated model—the community newspaper—and turned it into an essential tool by providing readers useful, informative news.
In September 2005, owners John and Jennifer Garrett launched the first edition of Community Impact Newspaper in Pflugerville and Round Rock. At that time, there were three full-time employees—there are now more than 60—and the company operated out of the game room in John’s house.
John’s vision to build a company that would provide local news didn’t stop in Pflugerville and Round Rock. In the next three years, the company launched five new editions in Williamson and Travis counties.
The company then launched the Northwest Houston edition in September 2009, reaching more than 105,000 homes and businesses in the fast-growing Cy-Fair area.
With the launch of the Lake Travis/Westlake edition in February 2010, readers in more than 442,000 homes and businesses in Central Texas receive local news from Community Impact Newspaper.
This continued growth is backed up by John and Jennifer’s commitment to building a company culture that strongly identifies with integrity and passion, and they are dedicated to cultivating strong employee relationships.
