GEORGETOWNThe Hutto Education Foundation awarded the organization's first teacher grants Nov. 2. Members of the foundation’s board of directors and administrators from Hutto ISD visited three campuses and presented the awards to recipients.

Teacher Shelly Hurley, Education Foundation founder Cindy Gonzales, assistant principal Debi Price, teacher Gina Convington and teacher Angie Moore accept the $2,129.67 check for their project digging science, at Ray Elementary School. The first grant for $2,130 was presented at Ray Elementary School to assistant principal Debi Price and teachers Angie Moore, Shelly Hurley and Gina Covington for their project, “digging science,” an interactive outdoor science project. The presentation was made in an outdoor classroom setting in front of a student audience.

A presentation followed at Hutto Middle School, where librarian Cheryl Larson was surprised with the grant as she was making a presentation during a school assembly. Larson’s project, “learning with science and history playaways,” was awarded $1,523.44 for audiobook equipment designed to enhance and promote the reading experience for students.

The third grant for $4,511 was awarded to Hutto High School librarian Debby Guernsey for her project, “electronic research: accessing the world of information now and in the future.” Through this project, students will have access to library resources through an online research index.
