TAYLORThe Taylor Chamber of Commerce announced Feb. 12 that Thomas E. Martinez will take over as president of the organization.

Martinez is a Taylor resident and serves on the Taylor Independent School Board. He is also president of the Temple College at Taylor Foundation Board of Directors. Prior to these positions, Martinez worked for TECO-Westinghouse from 1985-2009.

Jim Rudd, president of the board of directors for the Taylor Chamber, said a hiring committee unanimously recommended Martinez from a group of candidates. The board of directors then unanimously approved the recommendation.

“He is very familiar with what the chamber has gone through,” Rudd said.

The former chamber president, Rob Bauman, retired from his position Jan. 29, citing his declining health. Bauman worked for the chamber since February 2009.

Martinez will be the only paid staff member at the Taylor Chamber of Commerce. His position will begin March 1.
