WILLIAMSON COUNTYRepublican primary election results for state Senate District 5 on the evening of March 2 showed incumbent Steve Ogden, R-Bryan, in the lead with 67.76 percent or 13,263 votes as of about 8:45 p.m. The opposing Republican candidate, Ben Bius, was down with 32.23 percent at 6,308 votes.

John Birdwell, campaign spokesman for Bius, maintained an optimistic view, despite the difference in numbers.

“We still think our votes are setting there and are getting ready to come in,” he said. “When all the votes are counted and everything is said and done, we hope to be making a thank you speech.”

Ogden was not reachable for comment.

Democratic contestant Steve Wyman, who ran uncontested, gained 2,179 votes.
