WILLIAMSON COUNTY — In Williamson County the early voter turnout for the gubernatorial primary elections March 2 drew more Williamson County voters to the polls this year than in 2006.
The number of votes cast in Williamson County was up more than 10 percent, according to results administered by the Williamson County elections office. Approximately 15,800 voted during the 2006 gubernatorial primary, but 41,001 of the county’s 230,340 registered residents voted this year.
Republican voters dominated the results both years, with more than 80 percent of ballots cast in support of the GOP. However, the percentage of voters casting democratic ballots increased almost 1 percent while the number of republican ballots decreased by about 1 percent.
Turnouts for primary elections are typically much lower than turnouts for general elections. Primaries that go to runoff elections have the lowest turnout of all the elections.
