HUTTODebbie Chelf resigned from her position as Hutto city secretary Feb. 19 and accepted an offer by the City of Jarrell to serve as city secretary.

“I had an opportunity that was provided to me, and I wanted to take advantage of it,” she said, adding that she enjoyed her four years serving the Hutto community.

Chelf had worked for Hutto as city secretary since 2006. Some of her duties included managing municipal records, taking minutes and processing open records requests.

“We wish her the best,” Hutto City Manager Ed Broussard said, adding that the City of Jarrell is fortunate to have Chelf on its team.

Before working in Hutto, Chelf was employed by the cities of Cedar Park and Leander, where she lives.

“All city secretaries have a servant’s heart,” she said, “We enjoy doing what we can to make each community we serve a little bit better.”

The City of Hutto will fill the position, Broussard said, but not immediately. Christine Martinez, the retired city secretary for the City of Round Rock, will serve in the interim until the city is ready hire a permanent employee.
