Hutto Planning Workshop Kicks Off Nov. 3

Hutto is participating in a planning process – dubbed “Gaining From Growth” – that will create a template for future growth, including a Unified Development Code to provide the legal framework for the long-range plan. That process gets into high gear Nov. 3, when the City will launch a four-day collaborative planning workshop called a “charrette.” Everyone is invited.

“In fact, the charrette process brings out the best of ideas in all involved.  It is a collaborative search for a consensus as to what works best for Hutto and will achieve a shared vision. ”said City Manager Ed Broussard. "We want as many people as possible to participate so our plan represents a broad consensus. We have a national team of designers and planners to help us, but we’ll be the ones setting the goals and testing the ideas.”

The contracted consulting team is led by PlaceMakers, LLC (www.placemakers.com).  PlaceMakers specializes in creating master plans and regulatory frameworks for both private sector clients and municipalities across North America.

The four-day workshop begins with an opening presentation Nov. 3 at 6:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express, 323 Ed Schmidt Blvd. The final presentation will be at 6 p.m. on Nov. 6, during a joint session of the City Council, Planning & Zoning Commission, and Historic Preservation Commission in the Council Chambers at Hutto City Hall, located at 401 W. Front St.  In between will be public meetings and work-in-progress reports so citizens can stay engaged throughout the process.
