Entrepreneurial inspiration
I started Leadership Georgetown last month, which is a Chamber of Commerce program designed for area business leaders to become more acquainted and more involved in the community. At our first meeting I was particularly intrigued by the entrepreneurs in the group. I have always been somewhat of a dreamer and have tremendous respect for people who put their dreams into action and start a business.
My friend John Garrett did this when he created Community Impact Newspaper, and it has been a joy to watch and now be a part of it.
While researching for our Community Corridor section this month, I called someone building a new commercial site on Williams Drive. About a minute into the phone call, I realized this was the hair stylist I’ve had for years. He now has four hair salons and decided to use land he owned on Williams Drive to try his hand in real estate.
I congratulated him on his new endeavor, and he replied, “You know in America, anything is possible for you.”
Not only am I ridiculously patriotic, but I love the notion of determination and hard work paying off for entrepreneurs.
It is my hope that a reader with an entrepreneurial spirit will read our lead story about Taylor’s downtown revitalization and see the business opportunity that Taylor has to offer and decide to visit downtown with a fresh perspective.
The quaint city of Taylor captured my heart on my first visit because of the historic buildings and all the potential I see. The dreamer in me wants to buy a downtown building, fix it up, and start a business there. I am having too much fun working at Community Impact right now, but if an entrepreneur had not had the dream of Community Impact and got me hooked ... who knows.
To keep us innovative and entrepreneurial, we look forward to your feedback. Please let us know what you think.
