Leander ISD announced May 4 that a student at Bagdad Elementary School was identified as a probable case for H1N1 flu, also known as swine flu, according to a district press release. The district, in conjunction with Williamson County Health Department and the Centers for Disease Control, is keeping the school open.

“The student was not at school during the contagious period,” said LISD School Superintendent Bret Champion, according to the release. “The student’s siblings did not show signs of illness but were sent home, according to LISD’s process. All siblings and the ill student have been treated with an antiviral as a precaution,” Champion said.

Custodial services will disinfect Bagdad as an additional precaution.

Any student or employee who shows signs of flu-like illness will be sent home for a minimum of seven days, according to the release. LISD is monitoring all flu-like symptoms daily and reporting information to Williamson County Health Department.
