Wolf Corner

I graduated from Cy-Fair HS in 1963. One of my school mates was Charles Lane whose dad or uncle farmed rice on the NWC of FM 1960 @ FM 529. Each year when they planted and the young rice shoots came up the area was infested with rabbits [who can say free salad bar] and all of the rabbits brought in the wolves although I remember it mainly being coyotes but then my memory isn't what it used to be.
The $5.00 bounty was collected by cutting off the left [or was it the right?] ear and presenting it to the County Ag Agent whose office was on Hempstead Hwy. Payment was in cash. $5.00 was pretty good pay for doing something we would do anyway. Gas was about $.22 per gallon an we even had 'gas wars' that would get it down in the teens. A box of .22 ammo was about $.50 for 50 cartridges so it was a good return on investment.
