The tree disease is a fungus of the root system that is spread through the roots and by beetles attracted to freshly cut wood. Residents are encouraged to prune trees sparingly during the spring when beetles are most active, use paint to cover cuts in trees and dig deep trenches to help prevent diseased trees from infecting nearby trees.
