Leander Fall Festival cook off winners announced

Winners in five categories of the 2009 Leander Fall Festival All Bake, Chili and Cajun Cookoff were announced Oct. 19. The Leander Community Club and It’s a Grind Coffee House of Cedar Park sponsored the annual event.

The festival celebrates the change in season with a street dance, cookoff, vendor booths and family activities. The Leander Community Club receives, invests and manages contributions to help support organizations that improve quality of life in Leander, such as charitable or volunteer organizations and the city’s fire, police, parks and library departments.

This year’s results include:

Pie Contest

  • First – Sondra Baska (Leander/Georgetown), “Streusel-Topped Pumpkin Pie”
  • Second – Lisa Gailey (Leander), ?Nuts About Butter Milk Pie”
  • Third – Jessica Gailey (Leander), “Snowy Day”

Cake Contest

  • First – Bethany Koepsel (Leander), “Cheesecake with Amaretto Pear/Peach Pie Topping"
  • Second – Sondra Baska (Leander/Georgetown), “Mississippi Mud Cake”
  • Third – Amanda Lively (Austin) – “Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Cupcakes”

Cookie Contest

  • First – Bethany Koepsel (Leander), “Pecan Pie Bars”
  • Second – Tera Sheppard (Leander), “Texas Turtles”
  • Third – Lisa Gailey (Leander), “Carrot Cookies”

Chili Cook-off

  • First – Sandra Villarreal (Leander), “Fresh Tomato Chili”
  • Second – Marc Scott (Cedar Park), “Marc’s Madness”
  • Third – Norton Moses Masonic Lodge (Leander), “Masonic Chili”

Cajun Cookin’

  • First – Sondra Baska (Leander/Georgetown), “Jumbo”
  • Second – Robbie Baska (Leander/ Georgetown), “Rob’s Chicken Hot Wings”

Judges this year included Steve Kuwitzky of Leander Independent School District, Ray Stegall of Leander Community Club, Philip Seawell of Leander Community Club, Davis Siebold of Leander City Council, Chris Fielder of Leander City Council and Vic Villarreal of Austin Community College.

First place winners received a trophy, medal and certificate. Second and third place winners were presented with a certificate and medal.
