LEANDERIn an effort to comfort soldiers who are single and away from home during the holidays, Leander city staff hopes area residents and business owners will give generously in the coming weeks to show their support for the men and women of the 3-4 Aviation Unit.

In 2008, Leander officials adopted the Fort Hood unit. This year, city leaders hope to make the holidays special with gifts and dinners.

City staff hopes to provide 180 holiday stockings stuffed with such items as snacks, candies and pre-wrapped baked goods. Personal hygiene items are not needed.

Please deliver donations for stockings by Nov. 25 to City Secretary Debbie Haile, Leander City Hall, 200 W. Willis St. in Leander. Call 528-2743 or e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Haile can coordinate pick-up if needed.

Residents may also host a soldier for holiday dinner, which is an effort for soldiers who will not get to go home for the holidays. Most soldiers will have their own transportation. Participants can call 528-9909 by Dec. 15 with the number of soldiers that can be hosted.
