AUSTINAdult alternative station KGSR-FM has switched frequencies from 107.1-FM to 93.3-FM, and a Spanish-language format took its place Nov. 30.

Emmis Austin Radio announced Nov. 19 that KGSR, which broadcasts a blend of Texas, roots and adult alternative music, would switch to the 93.3 signal that is licensed to the City of Cedar Park.

The 93.3 frequency, formerly known as HOT 93.3, used to broadcast hip-hop and R&B music. The station’s personalities were laid off at the end of November.

Company officials said in a statement that KGSR’s new, stronger frequency will reach potential listeners in areas of Central Texas that its previous signal did not. The former 49,000-watt station has doubled its power to 100,000 watts, which will reach an estimated 100,000 more listeners, especially in Williamson County where the signal was weakest.

The Mexican music station La Zeta, which now broadcasts on 107.1, features a regional Mexican music lineup.

The 107.1 frequency, which is licensed to the City of Bastrop, has a signal coverage that closely matches Austin’s highest density Hispanic areas in the southeast, according to the statement.
