Sports center, city staff offer Leander Youth Baseball Club

LEANDER — Children in Leander and surrounding areas will soon be able to participate in a new baseball league because of a partnership between the City of Leander and a sports center in Cedar Park.
Dr. John's Sports Center, 1800 Clover Lane, will launch the Leander Youth Baseball Club starting March 22. All practices and games will be held at the center. The league is open to all boys and girls 4 to 8 years old and participants do not need to be a resident of Leander to join.
Ty Gibson, marketing coordinator and coach for Dr. John’s, said Leander Parks and Recreation Department has offered its marketing support and will refer participants to the program.
“As a Leander resident, I saw a need for more recreation programs in the area,” Gibson said. “I finally worked up the nerve to ask (Leander officials) if they wouldn’t mind if I helped jump-start the program.”
The league includes T-ball for children 4 to 6 years old and Coach Pitch for children 6 to 8 years old. Registration is open and will continue until the season starts March 22. The season ends May 22.
“Dr. John’s is stepping up to provide a league for the beginner athlete,” he said. “The league will stress the importance of great sportsmanship, great attitudes, being a great teammate, learning the fundamentals and having fun.”
