Williamson County celebrates Spay Day
By Community Impact Newspaper Staff Monday, 22 February 2010
LEANDER — A countywide event hosted by the Humane Society of Williamson County aims to inspire people to spay or neuter their pets in an effort to save animal lives in the future.
The annual National Spay Day campaign starts 11 a.m. Feb. 23 at the Humane Society’s office, 10930 E. Crystal Falls Parkway in Leander. The center is open Tuesday to Friday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday noon to 5 p.m.
While the Humane Society of Williamson County offers a regular low-cost spay/neuter clinic to the public every Tuesday and Thursday, additional incentives will be given on Feb. 23 in honor of National Spay Day.
The first 50 clients to schedule a spay/neuter appointment for Feb. 23 will receive a free rabies vaccination and a reduced rate of $5 for heartworm tests for animals serviced during the National Spay Day clinic. Rabies vaccinations normally cost pet owners $9, and heartworm testing costs $15. Spaying or neutering a dog or cat usually costs between $40 and $60 and additional fees may apply.
The Humane Society of Williamson County works with Humane Society of the United States and Humane Society International to make sure pets are healthy and well taken care of.
