General Manager’s Note — October 2008

“Sometimes you have to slow down to speed up.” I recently completed the leadership classes for both Cedar Park and Leander. Greg Glover, with Leander Independent School District’s special programs office, often reminded us that a little planning can go a long way.

At the beginning of October, I found myself in the Hill Country twice in the same week – both for retreats. While one allowed me to develop leadership skills and the other allowed me to get away from the hustle and bustle of life, I was reminded at both that time to consider the direction I’m headed is vital to my personal and professional success.

In November, the City of Leander is taking time to celebrate 30 years as a city. It’s a time to remember where its roots began and where it is headed in the coming months and years. Cedar Park celebrated its 35-year anniversary earlier this year. As each city slows down to celebrate its heritage, there is time to contemplate the future of both fast-growing cities.

As we found in our research this month, a lot of our readers are commuting to Central and Downtown Austin to work. We are proud to announce the launch of our sixth newspaper on November 14 in Central Austin.

Early voting begins Oct. 20, with Election Day Nov. 4. Whether you’re enjoying your new Sarah Palin glasses or you’re supporting a “change we can believe in,” I hope that by Nov. 4 you will make your way to the polls to participate in the elections.
