General Manager's Note — December 2008

When I was a child, my neighborhood block attracted onlookers from all over town during the holidays. Lights lined all the sidewalks from one house to the next. Painted snowmen adorned every yard, and Santa Claus made an appearance in his sleigh at the house two doors down. There’s something magical about the twinkling of lights in the brisk winter air. This year, we’re featuring some of the best-lit neighborhoods in the area.

There are many changes on the horizon. In less than a month, our nation will have a new president, and the state legislature will be back in session. We’re in a time of transition as a nation, and we’re being impacted at all levels. Leander ISD is joining forces with other Williamson County school districts to ask the legislature to bring about change in the state funding systems.

Just as the state government has a lot planned for 2009, our city governments are working to improve the quality of the community.

In addition to the plans to improve the aesthetic and safety qualities of US 183, there are plans to recruit new businesses to town, more retail and restaurant options for residents, new methods of transportation and the ongoing challenges of providing increased services to rapidly expanding populations.

I hope your holiday season is merry and bright!
