I really enjoy the arts. I buy paintings from an artist friend to decorate my house, and my sister’s photography hangs on my walls. My husband has accompanied me to Zilker Park to watch plays from Shakespeare to “Beauty and the Beast.” We attended Way Off Broadway Community Players’ most recent show in Leander, and we enjoyed the intimate atmosphere. Way Off Broadway even has a Shakespeare in the Park night planned at Robin Bledsoe Park in May.

The arts add value to a community, so I look forward to seeing more programs and people involved in Leander’s art community as the city shapes the policies allowed by its arts ordinance.

In Cedar Park, March 7 marks the celebration of several projects in the area. The opening of the extension of the Brushy Creek Trail to the Twin Lakes trailhead is kicking off with a 5K at the YMCA.

The new Brushy Creek Sports Park is also opening, and there is a monument dedication along Brushy Creek commemorating the granite blocks that fell off the train on its way to building the state capitol.

More than 1,000 people attended Capital Metro’s first MetroRail open house Feb. 7 in Leander. If you missed it, see the Recent News section at impactnews.com/leander-cedar-park for more open house dates at other stations.

As we celebrate the new developments designed for our area, Community Impact is promoting the projects with a new design of our own. We hope you enjoy the new look of the paper this month.
