General Manager's Note — April 2009

Whenever I take a road trip, I count mile markers along the highway. They serve as a progress gauge to my end destination.

When I started working at Community Impact, there were a lot of milestones in progress, several of which have been completed. Three years ago, the landscape of Cedar Park and Leander looked different. FM 1431 had open fields and a lot of development plans. Leander residents had been waiting six years for H-E-B Plus! to open.

Milestones mark progress in our community. The Cedar Park Center celebrated a topping out ceremony April 9 and continues toward a fall opening. Cedar Park Regional Medical Center has been open for a year and a half. Along FM 1431, Candlewood Suites broke ground in March, 1890 Ranch continues to add retailers and the recreation center will open this summer.

In Leander, Lowe’s celebrated its one-year anniversary in March and H-E-B Plus! has been open for two years. Discussions continue about rail and the TOD.

This month, we celebrate another milestone. April marks the beginning of Volume 4 of the Cedar Park/Leander edition of Community Impact. One reader recently e-mailed me, “[I] couldn’t wait to thank you for the great job you are doing and to tell you to keep them coming. This is exactly what new and longtime residents of Cedar Park/Leander need to truly appreciate the area.”

As we begin our fourth year, we look forward to continuing a tradition of quality information. I would like to thank our readers and advertisers; you’re the reason we’re able to reach our own milestones.
