Each year my husband and I participate in an international humanitarian aid project. There’s nothing like driving on the bumpy roads in a developing country to make you appreciate our road system here in Central Texas. To make the drive even more challenging, we dodge a wide range of alternative transportation methods, including pedestrians, bicycle taxis, horses, cars and buses, all of which cross into the street at will.

In a strategy just as diverse, regional agencies are looking at a multi-faceted approach to transportation growth. In our special report we highlight the variety of projects being planned or developed in Central Texas. Be sure to check out our map for a comprehensive look at current and future transportation plans for our region.

As the school year winds down and the weather warms up, local organizations are working to provide summer entertainment for the community. Way Off Broadway Community Players will perform “The Complete Works of Shakespeare (Abridged)” at Robin Bledsoe Park on May 30. The City of Cedar Park and the City of Leander host movies and concerts in the parks throughout the summer.

When we started the paper, we looked into the few available options for live music in Cedar Park and Leander. A group of local businesses is collaborating to bring more live music to our community, and area residents no longer need to drive to Austin to participate in the music scene. We included a live music listing for local venues on our calendar of events, which we hope will continue to expand with new locations.
