While other communities in our nation are struggling to grow, Cedar Park and Leander are moving forward with innovation. It’s amazing that, in an area that was once a farming and ranching community, these cities will soon be recognized as high-tech centers.

Leander took a big step in becoming a full-service city with the Valence Technology plant relocation announcement. This move changes the playing field of Central Texas. Valence is at the forefront of developing advanced energy storage devices. The city hopes this is the first of many green energy companies that will set up shop there.

Cedar Park has its share of high-tech industry moving to the area. Corvalent recently relocated to Cedar Park from Silicon Valley and hosted a grand opening in May. The city is committed to attracting even more such employment centers.

Both cities continue to plan for the future. Yet these plans did not occur in isolation. Recruiting new business requires the efforts of many individuals on several different levels, including municipal, county, state and, in the case of Valence, national representatives.

As students celebrate the end of the school year, we take the summer months to highlight education in our region. This month’s focus is on higher education in Central Texas. Austin Community College realizes the importance of having an educated workforce, especially with the incoming technology companies to our community. Officials are collaborating to groom the next generation of workers to be successful in our local industries.
