Consignment for kids

Fairytale Threads is accepting consignor registration for its semi-annual consignment sale event. Consignors set their own prices and must sign up by Sept. 5. 2. Sporting goods

The Academy Sports + Outdoors in 1890 Ranch, 1325 E. Whitestone Blvd., opened Aug. 8. The sporting goods store sells equipment for recreational sports, hunting and camping. For more information, visit www.academy.com.

Clay pigeons

The SLR Design and Development and Cedar Park Chamber of Commerce Sporting Clay Tournament is scheduled for Aug. 22 at the Cypress Valley Preserve, 6301 N. US 183 in Liberty Hill. Registration begins at noon with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. The event includes awards, a raffle, prizes, dinner, beverages and a flurry shoot. The cost is $125 per shooter or $500 per team of four. 3. Texas tradition

4. ”Eat more chikin”

Chick-fil-A will hold its grand opening Sept. 11 in 1890 Ranch, 1325 E. Whitestone Blvd. Customers will have the opportunity to win Chick-fil-A for a year by camping outside and being one of the first 100 customers to enter the store. Campers will be treated to ice cream and chicken nuggets throughout the night before the doors open at 6 a.m. Following the event, the store will be open Monday-Saturday and offer Chick-fil-A’s full menu. J&J BBQ & Burgers is under new ownership with new menu additions. Located at 300 W. Whitestone Blvd., the owners added cheeseburgers and catfish to accompany the barbecue menu. A benefit concert for Kelsey Livengood, a 19-year-old Leander High School graduate fighting Hodgkins Lymphoma, is planned from 2 p.m.-midnight Aug. 23 at The Post, 601 W. Whitestone. Livengood will perform along with Roger Len Smith Trio, Flounders Without Eyes, CR 290 Band, Kelly Ann and James Timmins, Psychic Ocean Tea and Lyrical Bynge. The event will also feature food, drinks, a skating demonstration by Skate Culture, temporary tattoos by Rushing Wind Ministries, face painting by HCBC Northpoint and moonwalks. The company will begin with 75 employees in its new location and expects to grow to 125 employees in the next three years. The facility is under construction and is expected to be fully operational by April 2009.

Maid-Rite, a casual dining restaurant and one of the oldest franchise chains in the United States, announced it has targeted Leander as a good location for one of its restaurants.
