AVERY RANCH
1. New fire station
Construction crews will break ground in November for a new fire station that will serve Avery Ranch and Davis Springs. The 9,000 sq. ft., one-story station will be located at 9421 Spectrum Drive. Five firefighters will be on hand for each shift. The total project budget, including land, equipment and construction, is estimated at $6.5 million. Austin Fire Department officials expect the station to be completed by spring 2010. Call 974-0130.

2. Books and bookshelves
Hobby Lobby is bringing its sister stores to 1890 Ranch. Mardel and Hemispheres, both owned by Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc., are scheduled to open in mid-November. Mardel is a 22,000 sq. ft. Christian supply store that sells books, music, gifts, videos, children’s games, office supplies and educational materials. Hemispheres, which is 50,000 sq. ft., sells home décor, including imported and domestic furniture, artwork, rugs and bedding. 3. Plato’s Closet allegory
Plato’s Closet, 1335 E. Whitestone Blvd., Ste. D145, is scheduled to open in mid-January. The upscale resale store will begin making purchases when it opens and, after five to six weeks, will begin selling clothes. Some new items will be available, such as purses and sunglasses, but most of the merchandise will be resale apparel. Foster placement
Open Arms Agency, a Corpus Christi-based foster placement agency, will now have a presence in Central Texas. Michele Keith began operating a home office in Cedar Park Oct. 20. Open Arms works to find foster families willing to care for children who have been abused and neglected, acting as a liaison between Child Protective Services and the families, Keith said. 4. Specialty sporting goods
Lane 4 Sports, a specialty sporting goods store with an emphasis on cycling, running and swimming, opened Nov. 3 at 3621 E. Whitestone Blvd., Ste. 500. The 3,000 sq. ft. store carries bicycle lines such as Cannondale, Quintana Roo, KHS and Lightspeed, plus running and swimming gear by Speedo and Nike. 5. Charming choices
Charming Charlie opened Oct. 14 in 1890 Ranch. The Houston-based women’s accessories retailer has hundreds of fashionable, affordable choices of handbags, jewelry, clothing, sunglasses and accessories. 6. Ice cream you scream
Baskin Robbins recently opened at 1335 E. Whitestone Blvd., Ste. S-104. The ice cream parlor seats 22 people and offers custom cakes and specials such as $1 scoop Tuesdays. Call 986-7593.
7. Chiropractic care
Chiropractic Neurology & Wellness Center hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony Nov. 4 at 201 S. Lakeline Blvd., Ste. 204. The center has four chiropractors: Dr. Tom Culleton, Dr. Marie Culleton, Dr. Teresa Culleton-Baluyot and Dr. Phil Baluyot. 8. Physical therapy
Texas Orthopedics Sports & Rehabilitation, 1401 Medical Parkway, Ste. 201, hosted a ribbon cutting Nov. 11. The clinic combines physicians and staff from three other offices in the region and offers MRI and physical therapy in addition to orthopedics and sports therapy. Ten physicians work out of the new 10,000 sq. ft. medical office building, which is on the Cedar Park Regional Medical Center campus. The office recently hosted a program called Adventures in Medicine for 65 high school students who learned about bone breaks and casts. Call 439-1009.
9. On the move
Home design store 7 Threadz will move from its Cedar Park location at 601 E. Whitestone Blvd., Ste. 404 in the Railyard shopping center Dec. 31. The store will most likely be relocated to Round Rock, but will keep the same phone number and website. Call 260-3732 or visit www.7threadz.com.
10. Wingin’ it
Buffalo Wild Wings opened Sept. 29 at 4710 Toll 183A. Wing lovers can savor 40 cent traditional wings on Tuesdays and 50 cent boneless wings on Thursdays, as well as daily rotating beer specials and happy hour from 4-7 p.m. With 20 beers on tap, 39 high-definition televisions and five 100-inch high-definition projectors, customers can enjoy watching a game. 11. Electric suppliers
City Electric Supply celebrated a ribbon cutting Nov. 5 in Building 4 at 500 Brushy Creek Road, Ste. 404. The new location is 8,500 sq. ft. and employs six, including a delivery driver. City Electric Supply sells just about any type of electrical product a contractor or do-it-yourself homeowner would need, including decorative lighting and ceiling fans. 12. Orthodontics office moving from Austin

Buy a leaf
The Leander Educational Excellence Foundation began a November fund-raising campaign called Harvest of Learning to benefit its early literacy outreach, textbook scholarship and teacher professional training programs. The campaign’s goal is to raise $10,000 for these efforts through donations from individuals and businesses. Donors can make a one-time donation or set up monthly auto-draft donations in any amount. Payments may be mailed or donated online using PayPal. Every donor will receive a LEEF window decal, and all donations of $25 will receive a custom book bag with the LEEF logo. Business Honor Roll memberships are available for $100 or more, and the “Buy a Leaf for LEEF” program allows businesses, schools and organizations to match individual donations of $1 or more. 13. Silicon sales
Discount Computers and Parts opened Oct. 15 at 2503 S. US 183, Ste. 105. The store specializes in discounted new products and affordable used laptops and desktop computers and sells software, routers, hard drives, memory, flash drives, cables, DVD drives and external burners. 15. Sudderth moving
Sudderth Brothers Contracting, Inc. and SBCI Materials relocated Nov. 1 from their locations in Liberty Hill and Cedar Park to 600 N. Bagdad Road. The companies combined with Seasons Garden Center and offer landscaping services and materials including plants, trees, soils, sand, gravel and mulch, as well as cut stone, excavation work for septic systems and site preparation for residential and some commercial projects. SoCo Transit Center opens
Capital Metro threw an Oktoberfest-themed celebration Oct. 21 in recognition of its newest facility, the South Congress Transit Center, located at 301 W. Ben White Blvd. Bus lines 1L, 1M, 9, 101, 202 and 328 go to the center.
