Janell and Michael Kling will open Alphagraphics in April at 10019 W. Parmer Lane. The company will offer large format printing and copying, lamination, foamboard mounting, banners and targeted direct mailing, in addition to printing and copies. 2. Don’t miss donuts

Bryan and Dana Adkins of Cedar Park are opening a Shipley Donuts at 10019 W. Parmer Lane. The store will seat 24 people and is scheduled to open in the last week of February, with a grand opening after spring break. Hours will be 5 a.m.-2 p.m. daily, and the store will sell 38 different varieties of donuts, 17 different pastries and eight types of kolaches. 3. Shoot, print, frame

Ink Stop opened in November at 1465 E. Whitestone Blvd., Ste. H130. The computer supply retailer sells ink cartridges, digital cameras and frames, jump drives, blank CDs and other office supplies. 4. Weight loss by Jenny

5. More Cedar Park lodging

Cedar Park will add another hotel to its roster soon. Pradip Mulji, through his company LQ Cedar Park Hospitality, is building a La Quinta at 1010 E. Whitestone Blvd. The $4 million project began construction this month. The hotel will have 75 rooms. Call 800-753-3757 to find out more.

6. Shorter strands

SportClips opened Jan. 16 at 1465 E. Whitestone Blvd., Ste. H330. The Georgetown-based chain of barbershops got its start in Austin in 1993. Store hours are Mon.-Fri. 9 a.m.-8 p.m., Sat. 8 a.m.-7 p.m. and Sun. 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Call 528-9460 or visit www.sportclips.com.

7. Capital idea

Jason and Jill Jarrett will open the newest location of Capital Gymnastics March 1 at 504 Denali Pass. Capital Gymnastics gives children from toddlers to age 18 the chance to learn gymnastics and hosts birthday parties, summer camps, mom’s day out and competitive teams. 8. Radiological association

Austin Radiological Association recently signed a lease for space at the Shops at Silverado, 12800 W. Parmer Lane. ARA will close its existing location at 801 E. Whitestone Blvd. and move into the new facility some time in mid-summer. The clinic will offer a variety of medical imaging, mammography and bone density scanning. 9. Game on

Teresa Castle opened Gamerz, 11200 Lakeline Mall Drive, in late November at Lakeline Mall. The store sells new and used video games, game systems and accessories from classics, such as the Atari 2600, to Playstation 3, X-Box 360 and Nintendo Wii, as well as books, strategy guides and T-shirts. 10. Photo contest

Heart of Cedar Park Photo Contest, the first citywide photo competition, is underway. Entry fees will help fund programs at the Cedar Park Public Library, 550 Discovery Blvd. For application and rules, go to www.cedarparktx.us and look for contest information under “Public Announcements.” Prizes will be awarded to top entries in adult and youth categories. Photos will be displayed at the library.

11. Doctor, doctor

A. Austin Regional Clinic at Cedar Park Medical Plaza, 1401 Medical Parkway, Bldg. B, Ste. 220, has added two new physicians to its staff: Dr. Shwol-Huo “Danny” Kiang, a dermatologist, and Dr. Manish Naik, an internal medicine specialist. 12. Return of Saccone’s

After closing its northwest Austin location in July 2007 due to fire, Saccone’s Pizza and Subs opened a new location at 11416 N. RR 620, Ste. N at the end of January. Daniel Saccone’s restaurant serves pizza, subs, pasta and salads. Call 257-1200 or visit www.saccones.com.

13. Smoothie operator

Alonzo Soliz opened a Tropical Smoothie Café Feb. 7 at 1465 E. Whitestone Blvd., Ste. 350. The restaurant serves sandwiches, wraps, salads, soups, breakfast and has a children’s menu. Also available are many types of frosty drinks, including dessert smoothies and low-fat smoothies made with Splenda. 14. Ear, nose, throat clinic

ENT Center of Austin opened a new ear, nose and throat clinic in November at 1730 E. Whitestone Blvd. Dr. Karen Stierman is on hand at the clinic on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and Dr. Russell Briggs is available Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The clinic offers a variety of ENT services, including evaluations of tonsils, tubes, ear and hearing problems, allergy treatment, pediatric care, snoring and sleep disorders. 15. Hookah me up

Jungle Juice, 2423 S. Bell Blvd., Ste. A, will now offer a local hookah lounge option. Hours are Mon.-Sat. 6 p.m.-midnight. Customers may bring their own beverages to enjoy with the water pipe experience. Regular store hours are Mon.-Sat. 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Call 219-1963.

Restaurant closings/Threadgill’s

Four Cedar Park restaurants have closed in recent months. Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory closed about three months after it opened. Traxx closed in December. Willy-O’s, which opened in December 2007, closed one year later. Village Inn also opened in December 2007 and closed in late 2008. The Cedar Park Threadgill’s, first announced in late 2006, was recently described as “dead in the water” by a restaurant spokeswoman.

Perry picks Connealy

Gov. Rick Perry recently named Chris Connealy of Cedar Park chair of the Texas Fire Protection Commission. The commission enforces statewide fire service standards and provides education and assistance to fire service personnel. Connealy is the fire chief of the Cedar Park Fire Department and a regional director of the Texas Fire Chiefs Association. Connealy’s term with the Fire Protection Commission ends Feb. 1, 2011.

16. Green products

Lowe’s, 1495 US 183, and the Leander Public Library, 1011 S. Bagdad Road, have partnered to raise awareness about some of the ways homeowners and builders can increase efficiency in their homes. In the library, Lowe’s has installed a small cross-section of a house using some of its energy efficient and environmentally friendly materials. Written material detailing the products is available at the library. Updates will likely be added to the display over the next several months. Hours are Mon.-Thur. 9 a.m.-9 p.m., Fri.-Sat. 9 a.m.-7 p.m. and Sun. noon-6 p.m. Call the library at 259-5259.

17. Horse therapy

Dream a Dream Therapeutic Horsemanship, 23650 Round Mountain Circle, was recently certified as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. The organization also started a scholarship fund for those whose insurance plans do not cover hippotherapy and hired Trish Honda, a certified hippotherapist. Dream a Dream provides horse therapy to children who have physical or developmental disabilities. Hours are by appointment. Call 260-5957 or visit www.dadth.org.

18. Children’s Courtyard

The Children’s Courtyard, a preschool facility located at 906 W. Crystal Falls Parkway, opened Jan. 12, with a grand-opening ceremony Jan. 31. The school offers early childhood education and after-school courses in an environment designed like a home to make children feel more comfortable. Children’s Courtyard provides meals and classrooms with a low student-teacher ratio. Enrollment capacity is 285, and all classes have two instructors. New principals

Leander ISD Superintendent Bret Champion recently announced the principals of LISD’s new schools. Kim Adcock will be principal of Ronald Reagan Elementary, scheduled to open this fall. Currently, Adcock is the principal at Cox Elementary School, where she will remain until March 2. Sheri Hawthorn will become principal of Cox Elementary. Hawthorn is currently an assistant principal at Vista Ridge High School. Jim Rose will be principal of River Ridge Elementary, also scheduled to open this fall. Currently, Rose is an elementary principal in Bloomington, Ind.

Digital TV delay

Congress recently passed legislation to shift the nation’s digital television transition from Feb. 17 to June 12 in order to better educate consumers about the transition and to provide ample opportunity to utilize the converter-box coupon program. To find out more, visit www.dtv2009.gov.
