Leander ISD board candidates to take part in forums

Candidates for Place 1 and Place 2 with the Leander ISD Board of Trustees will answer questions and discuss issues facing the district at forums scheduled for April 23 at Laura Welch Bush Elementary, 12600 Country Trails, Austin and April 27 at Cedar Park Middle School, 2100 Sun Chase Blvd.

The forums will give voters a chance to meet the candidates and ask questions before they go to the polls May 9.

Candidates for Place 1 include Lisa Mallory, James Spires and Dustin Weibel. Mallory is a project management consultant who has lived in the district three years. Spires, a software developer, has been a resident nine years. Weibel is a small-business owner and resident of three years. Don McCall, who is not seeking re-election, currently holds the position.

Place 2 candidates include incumbent Don Hisle, Nathan Deckinga and Nacole McDonald Thompson. Hisle works in real estate and has resided in the district 36 years. Deckinga is a senior database administrator who has been a resident 11 years. Thompson is a manager with Wells Fargo Bank and has lived in the district five years.

The April 23 forum will take place in the multi-purpose room and begins at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. The April 27 forum runs from 6:30-8 p.m. and will take place in the cafeteria.
