LISD Board picks new name for Vandegrift stadium

The Leander ISD Board of Trustees voted May 21 to name the new athletic stadium near Vandegrift High School “Ed W. Monroe Memorial Stadium.” Monroe was a member of the LISD Board of Trustees from 1958 to 1962.
In March, the board dubbed the facility Tumbleweed Hill Stadium, but rescinded that title in April after board members expressed concerns that the name might be misconstrued as a reference to marijuana.
The 5,000-seat stadium is expected to be finished in August.
