City breaks ground for Leander Fire Station No. 3

City officials and members of the business community participated in a groundbreaking ceremony for Fire Station No. 3 near the intersection of Sonny Drive and US 183.
Plans call for the station — which will be built next to the police station — to be built and operational within about 12 months.
Council approved a design-build contract for construction of Fire Station No. 3 with Jamail & Smith Construction earlier this year. The station’s cost should not exceed $2.9 million in bond funds voters approved in 2007.
The station will include a learning center for in-house training. The department currently uses Cedar Park’s facility on East Little Elm.
