Country music star George Strait will headline the opening concert for the Cedar Park Center, the center’s management announced June 15.

Rick McLaughlin, the center’s general manager, announced the concert in the center’s partially built lobby. Matt Powell, who is Place 1 councilman and mayor pro tem, and Tommy Hicks, Jr. — vice president of Hicks Holdings, LLC — removed a black tarp covering a 10-by-15 foot poster of Strait.

“We were excited that George Strait agreed, but we weren’t shocked,” McLaughlin said. “He’s a Texas native with strong ties to the area.”

The Grammy award-winning singer will perform Sept. 25. Tickets go on sale June 20 and will range from $160 to $300. An opening act has not yet been finalized. Tickets will be available to Texas Stars Hockey Club season ticket holders June 19.

It will be the second stadium grand opening in Texas this year for the country music legend. On June 6, he headlined the inaugural show at the new Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.

Cedar Park Center, at the intersection of New Hope Drive and Toll 183A, will be a multi-use stadium with 6,800 seats for hockey games and 8,700 seats for concerts. The center will include 24 suites, 545 club seats and a private club lounge.

A 17-acre retail site is planned near the center grounds for mixed-use development with 91,000 sq. ft. of retail and 91,000 sq. ft. of commercial space developed by Hicks Holdings.
